[...] Alexa would like to stay up until 3am and sleep until 11am. We fight it and fight it, we walk her and rock her and soothe her and try to bore her into submission, but she often perseveres. We choose not to sleep-train our children, so basically, we just put up with it. She isn’t always up until 3am, but to me, 1am is a major victory with her. When CJ was this age, we would lie down with him and he would fuss and put up a good fight but as long as we were lying with him, he’d eventually give in. Not Alexa. She’ll just stay awake. Happy and awake and raring to go. She really is becoming little miss attitude lately. I think I may have to reassess my mellow description. [...]

[...] Alexa came down with a nasty cold the day after she turned one year old. Being that I seem to always be a day late and a dollar short with these types of things, I hadn’t scheduled her one year old portraits until a few days after she turned one, so I cancelled them to wait out the cold. Well, one thing led to another, and I didn’t reschedule them until weeks later, and they were scheduled for today. [...]

She sounds a lot like my eldest daughter at that age. She learned to stand very early and we kept thinking she would take off, but she waited until she was nearly 13 months old to walk, just like all her playgroup buddies did. She is also very observant, and reserved at times. She has come out of that shell more now that she is almost four, but back in those days she sounds very much like your Alexa.

I also wanted to add that I am so glad you started a new blog with parenting in mind. I love Paid Twice, but it will be nice to hear more about your kids. And the personal side of things.

My daughter was also born in October of 2006 and shares several traits with Alexa. She has just now started to take a few steps and is cautious and curious about her world and has recently started shaking her head when we tell her "no touch" about the tv, the stuff on the end table, etc. They are so much fun at this age, aren't they? :-)
