Stress Doesn’t Bring Out The Best In Any Of Us…

Last night, about two miles from home, my car broke down.
I wasn’t driving it though, my husband was. The right brake light had stopped working and he had brought it in for service that morning on his way to work. It turned out that the lights were a recall issue of some sort, so he had to bring it to a Saturn dealer, which he scheduled for tomorrow (now today).
And last night, while he was driving home from work, the car died. Which I am sure is unrelated to the recall on the brake light, but unfortunate anyway.
Well, he called me and after some discussion and me calling the Saturn dealer and a tow truck, I said I’d go get the extra car seats, install them in his car, and come get him. I was too lazy to take the car seats we normally use out of my car that morning and we don’t keep the extra carseats installed in his car since we never use it for family activities. Not taking our carseats out of my car before he took my car in that morning, just in case, was my mistake. His mistake is that the extra seats are stored in the shed, which has one key, and for some reason, he had the key in his pocket instead of it hanging in the garage like it normally is. So, I couldn’t get the carseats, so I couldn’t come get him. Theoretically he could walk home, except it was currently 11 degrees out and dropping. So, not really.
He walked over to the local gas station a block away and bought a hat. And then we argued on the phone for a while, and we both said some crazy things. Mine involved him walking home. His involved me leaving the kids and coming to get him. Neither was actually happening, and we both knew that. Stress stinks.
Eventually, after he told me he was going to die from the cold, I called him a cab. Which picked him up at the gas station.
Not looking forward to seeing the bill for the tow or the car. Oh well. Sigh.

What a so not fun situation!
I am so glad you decided to not let him die from the cold though
By late last night Matt was laughing at himself for exclaiming he was going to die from the cold. He was a wee bit dramatic. It wasn’t like the car broke down 5000 miles away from civilization and he didn’t have a cell phone. Heh.
I’m so sorry this happened. I can definitely relate to stress talking though. My husband and I have that conversation when he locks his keys in the car….which sadly has happened way more than once.
Thanks so much for participating in this week’s Carnival of Family Life hosted at Pajama Mommy Community! Be sure to drop by and check out some of the other wonderful entries this week!
Brings back memories. You didn’t mention how far the gas station was from your house. I probably would have strapped the kids into seat belts and gone to get him. Car seats are exceptionally important, however, we never had them and we lived to tell the tale.
