Perspective

My neighbor’s house caught on fire last night. I was sitting at my computer tutoring around 10pm when my lights started flickering and I smelled something weird that was familiar, yet I couldn’t place it. A few minutes later, my spouse yelled down the stairs to me that our neighbor’s house was on fire. The smell I couldn’t place was smoke. I asked him if we needed to evacuate and as I asked, a number of fire trucks and police cars showed up on our tiny little cul-de-sac street.
The fire was on the other side of their house from ours, and after going outside to make sure the neighbors were okay and didn’t need anything, I came back inside. We turned on our exterior floodlights and our three-year-old got to watch a number of firemen and women run through our yard to go put the fire out. We’re not sure exactly what happened, except that the fire was in their garage and we think involved their furnace. We watched as the firemen cut holes in their garage roof to put out the fire and smoke billowed over the horizon. The entire time, all I could think about was how much worse it could have been, and how lucky we all are to have what we have - family, love, and time together.
Sometimes all life takes is a little perspective.

Eeek, that is scary. Thinking about fires scares me a ton. I’m glad everyone was okay and that your house wasnt’ damaged either.
Wow a little too close for comfort eh? Talk about scary. Thank goodness no one was hurt, It makes me realize that I need to make a better effort to ensure that our family and possessions are safe in case of a fire.
Oh no!! I’m glad no one got hurt and that your house was untouched!
