Hug Twice

Yesterday when CJ was getting on the bus, he stopped in the aisle, turned around, and yelled “Bye!  Love you!”

Honestly, I stopped dead in my tracks as I was walking down the bus steps and almost cried on the spot.

CJ has, of course, said I love you many times before.  He’s even said it to me.  And this isn’t exactly about his communication as much as it is about him realizing how to act in certain situations.  It is refreshingly normal to tell your mommy bye and you love her as you are setting off to school on the bus.  Up until now, CJ had always just gotten on the bus and marched back to his seat, never looking back at me or saying anything.

Still.  Sniff.  I think I still almost want to cry a little.

We’ll see what this morning brings.
