I Want Alexa To Use The Potty

Jaimie on Feb 15th 2008

That is CJ’s newest answer to the question of his using the potty.

He doesn’t want to, but he’d think it just grand if Alexa would.

I’ve got a little surprise for him. She actually shows some interest in wiping herself when you change her diaper, and climbing up on the potty. So soon, not yet, but soon, I may give potty training her a go. There has got to be SOME way of getting this house down to a “one child in diapers” household.

You may “Not want to use the potty” CJ… but someone is going to have to. We have three toilets in this house and only two people who use them.

I The Baby!

Jaimie on Feb 14th 2008

As Alexa has begun walking more and crawling less, CJ has begun to take notice. At first, he would point and yell “Baby walking!”. And then there was the imitating her walking and acting like Frankenstein. But now, the tables have turned completely.

The more Alexa walks, the more CJ crawls. And as he crawls, he giggles and shouts “I the baby!”

I don’t know if it is just funny to him, or if he is somehow jealous and wants to be the baby. I don’t really know how to figure that out, either. But for now, we have a baby who is becoming a toddler, and a preschooler who is reverting to a baby.

Life is always interesting, that is for sure.

The Lovey Saga, Continued

Jaimie on Feb 13th 2008

Last night, CJ and I went through his entire stuffed animal bin in search of, as he termed it, Number 4. He is a huge huge fan of counting, and I think he was much more upset by the fact that he now had 3 animals in his bed and not 4 than he was about the elephant being absent. I did offer several times to rescue the elephant from downstairs, but, no.

He soundly rejected each option from the bin, and finally, gave up and went to bed with three animals. “We don’t have a four” he repeated sadly a few times. And went to sleep.

So this morning when he came downstairs, I made a big deal about Elephant being “All clean!” and gave it back to CJ. He studied it very closely, especially the areas he knew his sister had chewed. He found no sign of “dirty”, whatever that was, so he agreed Elephant was “All clean!” and he returned “Number 4″ to his bed.

And all is restored in the universe. At least, for today.

Now they fear Alexa too

Jaimie on Feb 12th 2008

CJ has never been very kind to our cats. He’s not mean to them exactly, but he doesn’t respect their space and is constantly chasing them down and being too rough with them. He’s even tried to ride the bigger one, on occasion (we do not let him do this, and we protect the cats from him, I am just referring to his general attitude towards them).

As Alexa has become increasingly more mobile the past few weeks, she has become more and more fascinated with chasing the cats. She shouts with true toddler glee when she spots one, and starts stomping her way over to subject the cat to petting and hair-pulling. The bigger one ignores her generally, but the littler one has started sprinting out of the room when she hears the telltale squeal.

In our house, it is not all that good to be a cat right now. I just tell myself eventually the kids will internalize our cries of “Gentle!”.

Sister Made it Dirty

Jaimie on Feb 11th 2008

So, when your son has a bed full of loveys and you are trying to figure out how to not add any more, I have a solution.

Well, at least, if your son is my son. ;)

Friday morning when CJ got up, he was feeling particularly tired and grumpy, and on those days, the loveys and his special blanket come downstairs with him and hang out on the couch until he goes to school. So Puppy, Elephant, and his blanket all made the trek downstairs (Tiger and Leopard stayed upstairs for they were on his nightstand) and they stayed on the couch while CJ was at school. When CJ got home, I reminded him several times to bring them upstairs, but he chose not to.

And then Alexa found Elephant.

I thought for sure CJ would flip out when Alexa stuck Elephant’s trunk in her mouth and started chewing, but he just patted her on the head and then basically ignored her. She chewed and chewed, until she got bored and dropped the elephant. The elephant was damp, but otherwise looked unscathed to me after I examined it. But later, when I convinced CJ to finally bring his belongings upstairs, he refused to take the elephant.

No. Elephant dirty. Sister made it dirty. Dirty. No Elephant.

And he would not be dissuaded. So, poor Elephant has fallen out of favor and now lives in the downstairs toy bin, and we’re down to three loveys upstairs.

Because yes, the tiger and leopard have migrated off the nightstand and back into bed.
