Ever Wondered What Cricket Droppings Look Like?

Jaimie on Aug 20th 2008

Yeah, me neither.

I was getting some paper out of our open ream for the printer, and I pulled out a cricket. I thought it was a spider at first, a BIG spider, and I about jumped out of my skin. Yikes.

And the top sheet of paper was covered with cricket droppings. We generally reuse the backs of random junk mail and things like that for the printer paper so it isn;t very often I pull out actual clean sheets to print on.

Although that one wasn’t very clean. ;) (No, I didn’t use it! Yikes!)

She’s Bossy, So She Must Feel Better

Jaimie on Aug 19th 2008

We were all sick. Alexa the worst, then me, then CJ, and Matt was mostly (but not completely) spared.

I honestly just want to forget it now. ;)

Although I was almost as sick as Alexa, since I am 32 years older than she is, in me it was less worrisome. She wasn’t constantly throwing up, but she threw up for 5 days. She is so tiny to begin with, that she doesn’t have any extra weight to lose. I am so glad that this afternoon, she started bossing me around and stopped looking so droopy.

Because I know if she’s bossing me around, she must feel better. ;)

Apparently I Am Deaf To Some Sounds

Jaimie on Aug 14th 2008

Like the sound of either of my children throwing up, apparently.

My son woke me up yesterday morning to throw up on me. And I followed a trail back to his room, which included his bed. As I was comforting him, I hear the sounds of my daughter waking up. I walked into her room, and she was lying in her crib. She, and the crib, were covered in vomit.

Poor dears. I spent most of the day denying them food they begged for (and Alexa is way too young to understand why she only gets small sips at a time when she is clearly hungry) and cleaning up after them over and over again. CJ seems to have stopped throwing up now, but Alexa still is. And last night Matt said he is starting to feel sick…

I should have spent more of Sunday, when I was the sickest, sleeping in preparation for the inevitable.

Because I Am Sick

Jaimie on Aug 13th 2008

My daughter has decided she would like to go to sleep at 5. AM. Not PM. Every night.

This greatly hampers my recovery, I think. I do get to see a good deal of live Olympic coverage though.

I still really dislike potty training. And no, it isn’t improving. In fact, it is getting worse.

Something cheery when sitting at the computer doesn’t make me feel like throwing up. For now, like sick people are ought to do, I whine. :)

Houdini

Jaimie on Aug 8th 2008

Last night Matt was playing a video game and I sat down to watch for a little bit while Alexa was playing with a toy in the next room.  CJ was already upstairs asleep.  After a minute or two, I heard a weird clanking noise, and I got up to investigate.

We have gates on the top and the bottom of our staircase, and I though CJ had woken up and was rattling the top one.  But instead, I found Alexa sitting on the top stair, rattling the closed upstairs gate.  I leaped over the bottom gate and rushed up to grab her, and realized as I was doing so that the bottom gate was still latched.  So how was she on the stairs? She couldn’t possibly have climbed the gate… so what happened?

When we got downstairs I put her on the floor to find out.  At the bottom of our staircase, the very last banister on one side has a very slightly wider opening than all the rest.  Apparently, just wide enough for Alexa to stick her head through.  After which, the rest of her wriggles on through and up the stairs she goes.

She’s very displeased that we have since blocked off the opening she so carefully found.  ;)
