I Don’t Care If It Makes Underwear Just a Really Expensive Diaper

Jaimie on Aug 7th 2008

The next time there is significant amounts of poop in underwear, I am just throwing it out.  Double-bagged and into the trash it goes.

I have resorted to bribery and told CJ that if he poops on the potty, we will go shopping for a new game for the Playstation.  So every time he’s sat today he’s passed gas on the potty.  So I KNOW he knows how.  Not to mention, he’s done it before - just not lately.

We do have about a 75% success rate with pee though.

Ah, the wonders of potty training… can’t wait to start this all over with my daughter…

(PS  CJ does have a sticker chart but it doesn’t really motivate him at all.)

Day Two: Finally Improvement

Jaimie on Aug 5th 2008

Every time I have tried potty training CJ before, I’ve given up after a few days or a week.  Usually because there was never improvement of any kind, and actually usually it got worse instead of better.  And he NEVER, and I mean never, peed on the potty.

Two weeks ago he told me at taekwondo that he needed to pee, and went in the bathroom there and PEED on the potty.  At that moment I realized hey, maybe he’s actually finally ready.

And I think I was right.  We started potty training again yesterday, and although the morning went badly, the afternoon was better.  The evening was even better, and he stayed dry overnight and has had no accidents all day so far today.  And we even went out to Target to buy more underwear, with him in underwear, and he stayed dry.  He sat on the toilet at Target twice (his idea) but no pee.  But that’s okay.

He hasn’t pooped yet today…  although in the past we’ve had success with pooping on the potty we haven’t lately, and yesterday we had two underwear accidents with poop and none in the potty… so we’ll see.  But things seem hopeful.

No Diapers

Jaimie on Aug 4th 2008

Today is day 1 (again) of no diapers, none, no pullups no nothing but underwear for CJ - we are a big boy we wear underwear.  We have had plenty of naked days but he is perfectly content to pee all over everything.  I am hoping underwear makes him more motivated to pee in the potty instead.  We have tried underwear in the past but CJ just takes them off.

Today he can’t go outside unless he wears underwear.  He can’t play his Wall-E video game without underwear.  No Noggin without underwear.  So he puts them back on.  ;)

It is not really going that well.  Must get back to checking on things now.  ;)

The T-Ball That Wasn’t

Jaimie on Aug 1st 2008

Yesterday was CJ’s last T-Ball class for the summer.  And in true preschooler fashion, he decided this was the day he would behave more horribly than he ever has before.  If it wasn’t for the fact they were getting certificates at the end since it was the last one, I think I would have just given up and taken him home halfway through.  He did both t-ball and soccer this summer, and he genuinely seems to enjoy soccer, while he’s not really all that enthused by t-ball.  So we might not even do it next summer, therefore I wanted him to get his t-ball certificate.  Even though I came within about 5 seconds of just taking him home anyway.

And then…

They didn’t even have certificates! The coaches claim the program ran out of them.  Um.  I paid for the class, CJ should get a certificate.  I think I will call the Parks and Rec department to complain.  We hang the certificates up in CJ’s room and I am very irritated by this.

At least… at least my child was not the one that when the coaches gave them all bags of animal crackers as their last class goodbye treat, handed it back and said “I don’t want those, those stink, I want candy.”  My child just said thank you. At least there is that.

it helps that CJ thinks animal crackers are “candy”… I wonder how much longer I am going to be able to keep up that charade.  ;)
