Today Matt leaves for a business trip for 6 days.
I know I am spoiled, but Matt’s never left without us before. I am totally freaked out. Just me and the kids for 6 days. No Daddy.
I hope the kids don’t hate me (too much) by the end of the week.

CJ had school pictures today. Before I got him dressed this morning, I showed him the picture of the five different color choices for backgrounds, and he excitedly picked green. So I checked the “green” box on the order form, put it in his backpack, and he went on his merry way.
When he got home from school, he came in the house and then burst into tears. “Not green”, he said. “Purple.”
“You wanted purple pictures?” I asked.
“No. I want green. It was purple.“ And then he started to cry even more.
I am pretty sure I checked the green box. Pretty sure. Maybe I messed up. I asked him a few questions, and I think maybe that the child before him had purple as their background, and they changed it after he sat down. I told him I would call the teacher tomorrow and ask what color his background was.
He still doesn’t believe me that his background was green. I really hope his background was green. I hope I didn’t check purple.
Or I guess I’ll have to send him for retakes. Green retakes.

This morning CJ went into the bathroom (with my encouragement) to use the potty. I was getting out his clothes for the day from his bedroom while he was using it, until he started shouting “Mommy, come here!”
I went into the bathroom, and CJ pointed excitedly into the toilet. “Look, Mommy!” he exclaimed. “The pee bubbles!”
And indeed, there were bubbles in the water from the force of his peeing into the water. As he looked at them happily, Cj said -
“I love pee bubbles.”
Hey, whatever works. Maybe this will encourage him to use the potty on his own without reminders, if he can see bubbles.

Our Parks and Rec Department was offering a set of tumbling classes this fall for different age groups. I signed Alexa up for the 18 months to 3 years class, and CJ for the 4 and 5 year old class. Then CJ’s class was cancelled due to lack of signups. I was disappointed, but I was signing them up mostly because I thought Alexa would enjoy it, so at least she would still have class.
It started yesterday. Yes, she still has class. But contrary to the Parks and rec signup sheet, the class is actually for 2-3 year olds. Alexa is almost 2, but there is a wide divide between “almost 2″ and “2 to 3″. She had fun, but the class is so not designed for a child her age. Even the instructor readily admitted she was too young for the class.
So I guess we try again next year. The Parks and Rec Dept has a no refund policy but the instructor is requesting I get a refund anyway because the signup was incorrect. If not, well… maybe I’ll bring her back next week, and maybe they’ll let us just jump on the trampoline the whole class. A girl can dream.

My kids, they love pizza. Love. Alexa will literally try to climb herself into her own high chair if she thinks there might be pizza about.
But being busy working two jobs and running a household, I generally just make frozen cheese pizza and put my own toppings on it. But yesterday, I got creative and made my own pizza crust, sauce, and ended up with a genuinely homemade from scratch pizza.
Which Alexa loved the idea of. But one bite and she wanted out of her chair, and was begging for frozen pizza.
You can’t win them all.
CJ, on the other hand, loved it, as did Matt, so I did okay with someone.
